Petition To the Prime Minister

Last year, Suaram launched a petition to the Prime Minister to call on the Malaysian Government to sign the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. We are hoping to get at least 10,000 Malaysians to sign the petition. At the moment, we have only about 1,000 signatures. The plan is to compile the signatures at the hand them over to the Prime Minister on World Refugee Day which falls on 20 June annually.

I am writing to ask you for your help in gathering signatures for the petition. Help us collect signatures from colleagues, friends, family and acquaintances. You can make copies of the petition and distribute to interested friends to help collect signatures. The petition also doubles as an awareness raising effort. The more people talk about refugees, the more people are aware that they live amongst us and the dire situation that they live in.

Below are the links to the files to print – petition text in both English and Malay and the petition form. Feel free to print copies and to disseminate them.

We are hoping to gather all the signatures by at least the first week of June. Once you’ve gathered the signatures, you can either pass them to me or to post them to Suaram’s office.
